Chevron Mafumeira Sul (Angola)

Project Overview
The Mafumeira field is located in Area A of Block 0 in 160 feet (49 meters) of water off the Angolan coastline. The block is divided into areas A and B, and together it contains 21 fields with production totaling 344,000 barrels of liquid per day. Chevron serves as the operator of the block and holds a 39.2% interest; Sonangol P&P holds 41%; Total holds 10%; and ENI holds the remaining 9.8% interest.

Saipem received an EPIC contract for the installation of two 16-mile-long (26-kilometer-long) pipeline systems in a water depth of 160 feet (49 meters). Saipem's 3,000 and S355 vessels performed the installations in 2007 and 2008.
AF Global were contracted to supply the subsea connectors for Saipem.

The field commenced production on July 2, 2009, and is expected to reach 30,000 bopd and 30 MMcf/d in 2011.

Scope of Services
MEXIM were engaged by equipment vendor AF Global for the connector hardware design for the Mafumeira Sul Gas Export skid in conjunction with the subsea tooling. This involved scaling up an existing design of diverless subsea connector to withstand sizing of connector forgings to ASME VIII, qualifying a new forgemaster TDForge in Italy and overseeing production and qualification of these parts. Mexim were also invited to perform Strength FEA to demonstrate compliance to industry and project codes.

Our engineers were also tasked with resolving heat treatment issues which arose and were instrumental in the resolution of by re-tempering working together with TTN Grupo the API 6A certified heat-treatment specialists in Italy.
